Other than choosing the right plant for the right spot, watering correctly is the most important thing that gardeners can do for their plants. Learn how to “water right” for healthy, resilient plants… and lower water bills.

It’s estimated that 90% of desert gardeners water their landscape plants incorrectly — too shallowly and too frequently. And if you don’t get watering right, your plants will always struggle, and gardening will be more stressful for you and your plants than need be.
What will you find here?
First, you’ll learn about the #1 watering reference that everyone must have. Then you’ll find Southwest Gardener’s water-related articles. And finally, there’s a list of my favorite resources, including several non-profit, educational organizations that exist to help gardeners and homeowners use water more efficiently.
Landscape Watering by the Numbers
Landscape Watering by the Numbers is the top watering reference that is a “must have” for every gardener and homeowner. You can access it either as a PDF or a flipbook. (I prefer the PDF, which I find easier to read.)
It has everything you need to know about watering your desert landscape plants and is an essential resource if you have an irrigation system. It has in-depth information on how to set up your system to match your plants’ needs, and how to maintain and troubleshoot your system.

If you strongly prefer a physical copy, you can request one from Water Use It Wisely. (Note that this offer is intended for residents of the Phoenix metro area, but they may honor your request if you live elsewhere.)
